Stay Beautiful! How To Feel Good During Winter

This time of year, it’s hard to feel good about yourself. A lot of us have packed on a few pounds during the Christmas festivities what with all the incredible food and parties – and let’s face it, who goes to the gym over Christmas? The most exercise that most of us have taken over the last couple of weeks is going back and forth to the fridge to get more cheese. But it’s time to emerge from your Christmas haze into the rest of the world – and it’s time to feel beautiful again. Here are some tips on how to feel gorgeous during one of the hardest times of the year…

 

Take Care Of Your Skin

During the winter it’s easy to let your skin become red, cracked and uncomfortable. During the summer it’s easier to keep looking fresh, with the sunlight on your skin, plenty of sunscreen and constant reminders to drink lots of water. During the winter, a lot of us tend to look pale, sallow and generally a little unhealthy, so it’s crucial to make sure that you keep moisturising a couple of times a day. Wear a moisturiser with a high SPF underneath your makeup – put it on ten minutes before you apply your foundation to give it time to sink in. Winter sun is damaging as well as summer sun! Take off your makeup when you get home and apply another coat of moisturiser, as well as night cream and eye cream when you go to bed. If you have oily skin, try using a gel moisturiser. Drink plenty of water through the day – remember that when you feel thirsty, you’re generally already dehydrated!

 

Change What Bothers You About Yourself

Everyone always says that it’s important to accept yourself as you are – and this is definitely the case. You should always do your best to love the person who looks back at you when you’re standing in front of the mirror. However, this is easier said than done – and if you want to make some changes to your appearance, you shouldn’t feel ashamed. Your body is yours to enjoy, and you should make the most of it. Start meal planning and making sure that you eat your five portions of fruits and vegetables each day, and start an exercise class like pilates or yoga. If you feel really unhappy with your appearance and you want to make a big change, don’t feel ashamed about electing for some discreet plastic surgery.

 

Revamp Your Wardrobe

If you find it difficult to search for outfits that make you feel beautiful, then it’s time to trash some of your old clothes and find new ones. A lot of us tend to gain weight and then keep our old clothes in the hopes that we’ll lose weight and fit into them again, but there’s no point in that. Donate your old ill-fitting clothes and find ones that you feel good in instead. If you’re curvy, go for long sleeves if you want to hide your upper arms, or dresses that are nipped in at the waist to emphasise your hourglass figure.
